How to Achieve this Look:

Primed my eyelids with the e.l.f. Cosmetics Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer.

Used Kat Von D’s Saint and Sinner Eyeshadow Palette for the eyes: ‘Martyr’ in the Crease, ‘Rosary’ + ‘Exorcism’ on my lids, ‘Baptism’ + ‘Heaven’ on the inner corners of my eyes.

For mascara: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

Contacts: Blackout

Apply a makeup primer, I used the NYX Cosmetics Studio-Perfect Photo Loving Primer.

Apply a foundation, I used the Too Faced Born this Way Foundation (I love it).

Apply a concealer, I used the NYX Studio Photogenic Concealer

Set your foundation and concealer! I used the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.

To contour, I used the darkest shade in the NYX Studio Photogenic Concealer and blended it with a sculpting brush by Tarte.

Use a highlight (my favourite step), I used Tarte’s Pro Glow Highlight and Contour Palette, used ‘Strobe’ to highlight my cupid’s bow, tip of my nose and cheeks

For blush: Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 hour Blush in True Love.

For the paint splatter on the one side of the face: I used a Purple Body Paint and a thin brush, I dipped the brush with the paint and splattered it on the one side of my face along with my neck.

You can use any type of rhinestones or pearls on your face and neck! I just purchased mine at the Dollar Store!

NYX Slide on Lip Liner in ‘Baby Pink’

For the Lipstick:NYX Cosmetics Lip Lingerie in ‘Baby Pink Nude’

Add a glossy effect using the Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in ‘01Bare Secret’

Once you’ve finished applying all of the products above, you can set your makeup with a setting spray! I use the Urban Decay All Nighter long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Review

October 17, 2017
Sally Hansen Miracle Gel

As soon as I heard that Sally Hansen released an at home gel nail polish,  I was stoked! I tested these polishes out and before you continue reading, I am happy to share that: I absolutely LOVE them!

Sally Hansen introduces the at home gel nail polish that does not require any light. You do not have to cure this polish and it lasts for 2 weeks! This has completely changed my nail polish game everyone! I used to spend so much money on salon gel manicures and I must add that my nails were became extremely damaged and brittle. I save myself time and money by using this new line of gel polishes by Sally Hansen. I purchased the colour spice age along with the top coat to ensure that my polish lasts for two weeks.

These polishes wear a lot like traditional gel manicures – stays glossy and chip-free for 14 days! I should  mention that it is very easy to apply and to remove this gel polish.

I used this gel polish as a last resort, I was getting sick of going to the salon all of the time. This gel polish has solved every gripe I had with gel manicures—like the fact that I had to wait for the polish to cure under an LED lamp and then get it scraped off or soak my fingers in acetone. This gel polish goes on and comes off exactly like regular polish: two coats of a base-plus-colour formula and one layer of the topcoat. It dries in five minutes—yes, that’s right! There are 40 shades to choose from and all have a glossy finish. I tried and tested this gel polish and I’m so excited to spread the news that I had no chips during the first week, I did get my first chip during the end of the second week but the polish still looked presentable. Keep in mind that I’m constantly keeping my home clean, doing the dishes and other household chores. I’m beyond happy about this gel polish and can’t wait to try different colours!

Three Eyeshadow Palettes You Should Try This Fall

October 12, 2017

It’s always a treat when I buy a new eyeshadow palette for myself! I thought I would share three of my favourite eyeshadow palettes that will inspire some amazing fall looks!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

I bought this palette over 2 years ago and I find myself reaching for it whenever I need to create an everyday yet glam look. This palette includes colours that are wearable for any occasion. It has a mix of pinks, coppers and taupes and with 12 shades to choose from, it’s perfect for when you need to take your look from simple to special.

NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette | Warm Neutrals

This palette is certainly an affordable yet luxurious in my opinion. It is brighter and bolder but all of the shades are easy to wear. I tend to use this palette when I am going out for a party and when I want a dramatic look on my eyes. I’m not a huge fan of dark eyeshadows but this palette can help you create an edgy and modern look. This palette is so perfect in size so you can bring it with you on vacation!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette

At last, the best for last! This palette received so many awful reviews before it came out but I absolutely love it! It has an array of colours to choose from. I’ve been trying to learn the cut crease look and this palette has been doing me a huge favour. The colours are easy to blend and very creamy. I also used this palette to create some Halloween, (just a FYI for those of you who are into that type of makeup!) The best part is that this palette features matte and metallic shades which is such a help when you want to change your look from day to night.

What’s your favourite eyeshadow palette to use during the fall?

It is heartbreaking to think about the cruelty that some animals face just for the sake of makeup and money. It is my dream to help raise awareness about any form of animal cruelty that goes on in many countries around the world. In today’s post, I will help you distinguish and recognize the brands that are not cruelty free and also offer you a list of brands that are 100% cruelty free. I truly believe that there has been enough testing already and these companies should know what products are harmful to humans by now!

What Does Cruelty Free Mean?

Cruelty free only applies to makeup products that are NOT tested on any animals anywhere in the world.

*Any company that makes products in China tests on animals.

How Do You Know if a Brand is Cruelty Free?

I like to use Logical Harmony and Cruelty Free Kitty to research if a product is safe to use. Both websites will offer long lists of products that do not test on animals and also products that are not cruelty free. Beware that some products that once were cruelty free are no longer cruelty free. Make sure you do your own research by visiting the brand’s website. If the site does not have any information on this crucial information then you should e-mail the brand to find out! If the brand states that there are exceptions, that means they are NOT cruelty free! If their FAQ states that they do not test on animals but they manufacture some products in China, that means they DO test on animals.

Pay Attention to the Logos!

When you’re shopping in stores, look for the 3 logos below — and only these.

However, always remember that a company can be cruelty-free even without displaying any logo, so make sure to do your research!

Brands That Test On Animals

Cover Girl

NARS (recently switched to testing on animals)

Estee Lauder

Make Up For Ever

Elizabeth Arden

Victoria’s Secret

This list features some of the brands that test on animals, there are too many to list here but make sure you always refer to Logical Harmony and Cruelty Free Kitty!

Brands That Are Cruelty Free

Josie Maran

Ren Skincare

Skin Iceland

Kate Somerville

Sunday Riley

Dose of Colours

It Cosmetics

Anastasia Beverly Hills

The Balm

Physicians Formula

Too Faced

Charlotte Tilbury

Cover FX

Kat Von D

Marc Jacobs

Let’s start buying more cruelty free products so that companies stop investing their time and money into testing on animals! If you are not convinced yet, over 100 million animals in the United States alone are tortured and killed for animal testing.

For cosmetics tests, most animals used are bunnies, guinea pigs, mice, and rats. They often die from the experiments.

Dogs are often used in medical research. They’re subjected to particularily invasive tests for cardiology, endocrinology, and bone studies. In 2013, 67,772 dogs were used in research in the United States.

Cats are often used in neurological studies. Half of the tests cats are subjected to can “cause pain or distress”. In 2013, 24,221 cats were used in research in the United States.

Non-human primates, especially macaques but also monkeys, baboons, and chimpanzees, are used in a multitude of experiments. They take part in toxicology, AIDS, hepatitis, reproduction, and xenotransplantation tests among others. Over 70,000 non-human primates are subjected to tests every year in the United States and European Union.

For more information, go here.

There’s nothing that justifies animal testing in the 21st century. It’s a cruel and outdated practice that’s not only unethical but also unnecessary.

If enough of us purchase from cruelty-free brands and boycott those that test on animals, it means things are going to change. If L’Oreal did their market research today and 98% of those interviewed claimed that they would never buy a product that was tested on animals, L’Oreal would reconsider their position. Hard. Because they want to sell their products. That’s all that matters to a big business!

What Else Can You Do to Help?

Sign Petitions

The first petition I would urge everyone to sign is the Petition to Pass the Humane Cosmetics Act. This means that a ban could be issued on animal testing for cosmetics in the United States. Whether or not you live in the U.S., please sign this petition. Passing this bill would be a huge victory!

For Canadians, you can sign this petition started by Cruelty Free International to End Cosmetics Animal Testing in Canada by December 2015.

I also urge you to sign this petition, geared towards L’Oreal to Stop Animal Testing. It’s getting good traction. Keep in mind that although L’Oreal reduced its animal testing in recent years, the company still refuses to go 100% cruelty-free.

The Dodo is an awesome news site dedicated to animal rights and animal welfare. It’s also filled with informative posts.

One Green Planet is exactly what the name implies: everything good for the planet and eco-friendly, and this includes animal welfare. This is one of my favorite sites.

Humane Society International is an amazing organization working toward the end of animal testing worldwide. I have tremendous respect for this organization and they’re achieving a ton of great things! Please support them!

Join Campaigns

Be Cruelty-Free is Humane Society International’s campaign to end animal testing. You can sign the pledge and participate in their projects.

Cruelty-Free International is a worldwide organization working against animal testing. You can help them out in a number of ways — all listed on their site!

I hope this post helped clear up some things about animal testing! I appreciate all of the support and wish you the best of luck on your cruelty free journey!

If you’re in your late 20’s or early 30’s, then you’re probably freaking out about wrinkles. No need to worry, there’s a new skincare line that’s ultra affordable and far from ordinary if you ask me!

The Ordinary Skincare Company has sold 3 million units in less than 10 months! Get ready to meet a skincare line that will have you glowing in no time.

The Ordinary Skincare products

The following products from the Ordinary Skincare line work for my skin (dehydrated/combination) and I figured this would be a highly resourceful post for those of you who desperately need an affordable pick me up for your skin!

The De-Puffing Eye Serum
Caffeine Solution 5% EGCG (30ml) $6.70 CAD
Add the AM eye-awaking de-puffing serum if you constantly wake up with awful puffy eyes! This is a light yet hydrating eye product that is great for the mornings! With a high concentrate of caffeine, this light, none sticky serum topically reduces puffiness with instant effects. This serum is perfect for people like me: stay up late and wake up bright and early.  The serum also benefits your skin with the hyaluronic acid and glycerin which helps your dry under eyes and helps them feel smoother. Keep this serum in the fridge if you want that cooling effect on your skin when you apply it.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (30ml) $5.80 CAD
Meet the moisturizer for all skin types! Yep, it’s possible with the right ingredients. This light weight moisturizer has one important aim: to create a barrier against surface hydration loss. Which may sound a tad confusing but it makes sense really, better to protect moisture naturally found in the skin rather than add it back in later.  On my combination skin this feels like a medium moisturizer which I initially thought would be too heavy (I prefer gel based moisturizers) but due to the nature of it, it hasn’t broken me out or increased how oily my skin feels. My skin feels renewed and moisturized, so I am quite happy about that!

Exfoliate Your Skin at Night
Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% (30ml) $6.70 CAD
The Ordinary offers quite a few chemical exfoliating products, which is such a great deal for anyone on a budget! There’s the topical toner with Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution (I should warn you.. it’s always sold out), the blood-red 10-minute mask with AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and the overnight peeling formulation with Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% which also comes in a milder 5% solution if your skin is more sensitive or you’re new to chemical exfoliants. I like to apply a few drops of this before bed, (keep in mind it is not so great smelling) and I leave it on for about 5-10 minutes before applying my evening moisturizer of choice. Leave this on all night along with your moisturizer and wash it off in the morning for a softer and smoother face!

Fight Spots With This Effective Solution
Salicylic Acid 2% Solution (15ml) $6.70 CAD
Lastly, let’s talk about how oily my skin gets around that time of the month, therefore, I like using this stuff as a spot treatment. This is an exfoliant with salicylic acid solution that actually helps exfoliate the inside walls of the pores to fight the appearance of blemishes and stop them in their tracks. Which explains why after 2-3 days of using this slightly foamy feeling solution my blemishes seem to disappear without any dryness in those areas. You can also use this on larger areas such as your chin to de-congest the area and clear up any future breakouts! I absolutely love this product because even though it’s only 15ml, it lasts a very very long time!

Hope you enjoyed learning about The Ordinary Skincare line, let me know which products you like best!

Cleans pores, polishes skin and restores balance.

The Freeman Beauty Infusion Cleansing Clay Mask is a super affordable charcoal mask that can be swapped for the incredibly expensive Glamglow mud mask!

I’ve been sticking to my beauty routine lately and I’ve been using this mask twice a week and I love it. If you haven’t tried Freeman Beauty Infusion yet, their masks are serum-infused to give your skin an extra boost of goodness while you have your mask on.  The brand doesn’t test on animals and does NOT contain any parabens, sulfates, phthalates, or mineral oil.  Also for sensitive skin types, the products are dermatologist tested as well.

This mask deep cleans your skin, charcoal gently draws out oils and toxins from your skin without being over-drying, probiotics help clear your complexion.

Freeman Beauty

The first thing I noticed about this mask was the texture: it is so smooth and easy to apply!

Like other clay masks, you can feel it tighten up as the mask dries on your skin. After applying the mask all over your face, you will see that  as it dries, the mask will pull out toxins and oils out of your pores.  I left the mask on for 20 minutes so I really got to see the oil from my pores seeping through the mask. If you can’t smile without tugging on your skin, that means the mask is ready to be removed!

I have combination skin and I did not experience any itchiness, burning, or even any redness after washing the mask off.

I absolutely loved the feeling of washing this mask off because my skin felt smoother and looked brighter!

The mask is great because it does not contain any parabens, sulfates, phthalates, or mineral oil and is dermatologist tested.

The best part about this mask is that Freeman Beauty does not test on animals!

Hi beauties! Since I’m a sucker for lip products, I will be reviewing the ever so popular Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Glosses. I received a sample size to try a few months ago and I finally had a chance to give you an honest review.

These lip glosses can be found on the Sephora website, Ulta and of course the Anastasia Beverly Hills website. There are various shades to choose from and they retail at a fair price of $16 USD.

I love Anastasia Beverly Hills’ products because they are Vegan friendly as well as cruelty free!

The Anastasia Beverly Hills glosses are extremely pigmented and creamy. They are not sticky but they are thick in texture and they feel very moisturizing on the lips which I like. They have a vanilla cream scent to them that fades after you apply the gloss on your lips. The packaging is simple and I love the applicator as it is spongey and picks up enough lip gloss each time you pull it out of the tube.

As you can see the shade “Potion” in my picture below, is VERY pigmented and you can also see that it has a shiny finish which is incredibly beautiful. You can wear these glosses alone, or you can apply it as a top gloss over your lipstick for a bold look. If you’re like me, you can mix and match the gloss with some of your lipsticks to create your own unique colour/shade.

What do you think of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Glosses?

August 1, 2017

I can’t believe that we’ve just entered the month of August already! How did this happen? I want to share with you some must-have beauty products for the month of August. I have selected beauty essentials and makeup products that will help you get through the remainder of the summer!

Mario Badescu Skin Care: Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

I love using facial mists throughout the day to refresh my skin and helps rejuvenate as well. This facial spray has amazing reviews and I’m super excited to try it!

Dove Maximum Protection Anti-Perspirant Cream

An essential buy that I want to try when my current deodorant runs out. This is a cream deodorant which may last longer than a spray or the regular slide on. I’ve read reviews on this product and most people claim that this helps protect you from sweating all day long!

The Body Shop Himalayan Purifying Glow Mask

This is a clay based face mask that I’ve heard so many good things about. If you don’t believe me just check out the reviews on the link above! This mask will be highly effective on oily/blemish prone skin and helps you feel ultra clean and refreshed.

Essie Ballet Slippers Nail Polish

Essie is one of my favourite nail polishes on the market because it lasts the longest on my nails. The shade “ballet slippers” is perfect since it is a cute and feminine pink that is quite flattering on the skin.

NYX Slide-on Pencils

These are eye pencils that are creamy and highly pigmented. They can be compared to Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils. What NYX promises they do: stay put all day and remain highly pigmented at the end of your day as well.

Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette

The Alchemist palette features holographic shades that will amp up you eyeshadows and lipsticks. It is formulated with Double Dimension Technology, which is a formula packed with 360 degree refractive pearls and dipped in a prismatic coating. You can also use this as a super-shimmery highlighter!

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer UV

I like to use a repairing moisturizer after the summer months to repair my skin. I have been searching for a moisturizer to purchase and stumbled upon a sample of this one by La Roche-Posay and my skin feels great in terms of moisture and softness. This moisturizer contains elements of probiotic thermal water.

Differin Gel

I’ve been interested in trying this product out for months now and I will be purchasing it soon. It is a gel that can be used daily to treat and prevent acne breakouts. I have read great reviews on this product and some people claim that it not only prevents but clears existing blemishes and scars as well!

Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick

“30 Shades, two finishes” is the description given to these liquid lipsticks by Urban Decay. This lipstick feels creamy and lasts all day! You will have to use a makeup wipe to get this stuff off of your lips.

Karrueche x Colourpop Fem Rose Eyeshadow Palette

I’ve been eyeing this palette for a week now and I want it because it’s so damn versatile. The shades can help you achieve a day time to night time look! With Fall being just around the corner, you will get good use out of this palette.

Sensitive Caring Micellar Water for Face Care by NIVEA

I hate spending too much time trying to remove the makeup off of my face so I learned about this miracle product from a friend and I love it! My makeup comes right off and with ease! Perfect for people who have sensitive skin and for those who are lazy at the end of the night 😉 This product cuts my nighttime routine in half!

Let me know what beauty products you plan on buying in August 🙂

Best Waterproof and Sweatproof Makeup

July 25, 2017

Nobody likes the look of melting makeup! Humidity and heat can ruin your makeup and let’s face it, we’ve all been there! I’ve tried to make your lives easier this summer by rounding up some amazing products that are both waterproof and sweat proof.

If you prefer to wear makeup at the beach or at the pool then I highly suggest stocking up on a few makeup products that will not melt off your face. These products that I will mention can even be worn in the water and will stay in place!

Tarte Smooth Operator – Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer

It’s creamy, blendable and stays put…this concealer covers everything! You can use this concealer for dark under eye areas as well as to cover blemishes and dark spots.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

This lipstick is creamy, dries fast, smooth and very pigmented. It’s also soft, workable, opaque and dries to the exact colour as you initially applied.

Clio Waterproof Brush Liner – Kill Black

This eyeliner does not smudge or flake and it is waterproof! You will find that your eyeliner is still slayin’ after a long hot summer day.

Lancome Effacerness Waterproof Long Lasting Under Eye Concealer

This concealer is brilliant because of the coverage and how long it lasts throughout the day. It looks more natural than other concealers that I’ve tried and you can even skip the foundation if you want!

Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner

These gel liners are waterproof, touch proof and can stay on for the whole day. They are very creamy and glide without tugging on your lids.

Tarte Matte Waterproof Mineral Powder Bronzer

This is a classic bronzer that is great for contouring as well as giving you a lasting summer glow.

Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara – Waterproof

Definitely offers waterproof protection. This mascara gives the look of a high end product at a drugstore price.

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes – Waterproof

One of my favourite waterproof mascaras that gives so much volume you’d think my lashes were fake.

Urban Decay Perversion Waterproof Fine Point Eye Pen

This eyeliner is not only true to its waterproof claim, it is also smudge proof! my eyeliner will not budge at all with this product and that’s what I love about it!

NYX Proof It! Waterproof Eyebrow Primer

This is a great eyebrow primer from what I have read online. I don’t need to fill my eyebrows in too much so I don’t need to purchase this product; however, all of the reviews on this eyebrow primer are amazing!

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk

You can certainly count on this lip liner to stay put! It’s very creamy, applies beautifully and gives your lips that naturally plumped look and makes them look so soft.

Catrice Prime and Fine Mattifying Powder – Waterproof

Gives a mattifying look, perfected and natural at the same time. The pores are barely visible and keeps shine at bay for a good amount of hours.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner

This eyeliner is super waterproof and perfect for creating a flawless winged eyeliner look. This eyeliner will last all day.

MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation

This has a satin finish once it has been applied. You will find that this foundation will not budge during the hot summer months.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Brow Pomade

This pomade is amazing due to the fact that it will survive sweat, humidity and almost anything else you put it through.
