Heels for the Holidays

November 30, 2016

The holiday season is officially in full swing so that means more parties and functions to attend. Not only is a killer outfit necessary this holiday season, but also a pair of heels that make you stand out from everyone else.

When shopping for holiday heels, be careful not to mix up tasteful and tacky – too much glitter is never a good idea. To keep yourself away from being tacky, try looking for velvets, metallic silvers and golds, and of course, only some sparkle.

I have rounded up a few of my favourite heels for the holidays below. Which pair do you like most?

Heels for the Holidays

Nina – Wine Velvet, $29.99, Lola Shoetique

These heels are ideal for nearly any occasion whether it be casual or even a formal event. This is the perfect heel to wear with an evening gown or a short dress. These heels are open toe and have a sexy stiletto heel as well. Available in Black Velvet and Wine Velvet.

Heels for the Holidays

Ritz & Glitz – Silver, $29.99, Lola Shoetique

These are the perfect party heels! Even better, metallics are in this season! These heels are open toe, stiletto heels and have an ankle lace-up with embellished tassels on the back. Available in Gold and Silver.

Heels for the Holidays

Barsha Lace-up Pumps, Vince Camuto, $110, Nordstrom

If you’re looking for a classy heel, I would highly recommend this black suede pair by Vince Camuto. These heels are beautiful on because of the lace-up feature and the heel is not too high which makes them comfortable to wear to parties.

Heels for the Holidays

Bodell Lace-up Pumps, Vince Camuto, $109, Nordstrom

These pumps are similar to the Barsha pumps above except they are in red. Red is always an easy go to colour during the holidays and these heels have just the right amount of style and class.

Heels for the Holidays

MERLOT Sequin Boots, $89, Topshop

These are not your average heels. They feature a chunky heel for comfort and so much character with the shiny sequin details. These will make a simple outfit stand out and you’ll be getting compliments all night if you decide to wear them to a party. I would also suggest pairing these heels with a neutral wardrobe because they will definitely add enough character to the whole outfit!

Heels for the Holidays

Cessi in Bordeaux Suede, $120, Aldo

Keep your feet warm but still looking stylish this holiday season with this pair of heels. I especially love the gold zipper at the back! These heels are quite versatile because they can be worn with a skirt or with jeans on a casual day.

Heels for the Holidays

Heavenly – Nude, $29.99, Lola Shoetique

I absolutely love these heels because of the metallic details and the stiletto heel. Available in Black, Nude and Rose.

Heels for the Holidays Own the Night, $41.99, Lola Shoetique

Wear these heels with a mid-length or above the knee dress because you don’t want to hide them! These heels feature an open toe, stiletto heel, metallic details, and a zipper at the back. Available in black, mauve and nude.

Date Night: Sexy Sweater Dress

November 21, 2016

So you’ve got a date this week and you’ve left the what to wear part until the last minute. Well, in a perfect world, taking our sweet time getting ready would be ideal but this happens to be real life, and if you’re like me, you’ll wait until the last minute to figure it out. So my first piece of advice? Wear black. Not only is black sexy but it’s always an easy colour to shop for. My next piece of advice? Never wear anything loose or baggy, try wearing something that will flatter the shape of your body. I went with a slimming black sweater dress and I am so happy that I did because it’s simple but not too simple and doesn’t make me look like I am trying too hard to impress anyone. To add extra appeal to my outfit, I decided to wear heels by Steve Madden that I purchased from DSW. My sweater dress is from Winners and I absolutely love the way it fits; it’s such a comfortable dress. I decided that I wanted to keep it simple so my only accessory is a clutch from Macys that I bought a few years ago.

You can shop similar to this look below 🙂

When wearing all black, it’s a great idea to add a colour to make your look POP! I recommend trying something like MAC’s Russian Red lipstick to seal the deal.

Fashion Friday: Leather Skirts for Fall

November 11, 2016

Leather Skirt Fall Fashion Style
Anyone can rock a leather skirt. I’m not sure why some people are so uncertain about wearing them. They are bold, yes, but they are perfect for anyone who wants to make a fashion statement. I decided to wear a mini leather skirt to a photo shoot and I was quite happy that I did. A leather skirt is a mix of both chic and elegance especially when you know how to style it. High heels are a prerequisite here. I paired the skirt with a thin grey sweater and wore black nylons. I am not usually a huge fan of zippers but the zippers really complimented this skirt and looked great with the grey top that I am wearing.

I purchased both the top and the leather skirt at Urban Planet. I especially love that I purchased this outfit when they had 40% off the entire store. This outfit costed less than $40 Canadian! Unbelievable right?

My suede heels are from Nine West.  I love how comfortable they are and they are perfect with skinny jeans as well.

The weather has been gorgeous despite it being November!

Leather skirts can also be worn during the winter. You can pair them up with nylons and ankle boots too!

I wanted my makeup to stand out in pictures so I went a but heavier on the foundation and wore a dark lipstick. I was aiming for a classic/glam look.

Here are the products that I used to achieve this look:

Fit me! Matte and Poreless Foundation by Maybelline

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer

Maybelline FaceStudio Master Contour and Highlight V-Shape Duo Stick

Too Faced Matte Bronzer from Sephora

NARS Blush in Taos

Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting Powder

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact in Golden Nude

Kat Von D Ink Liner in black

Essence Cosmetics I love Extreme Volume Mascara

MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam III Lipstick

A leather skirt is definitely a must have item for fall and winter.  I love that the leather skirt has quite the style versatility: from grunge, to glam, to girly, to preppy, to smart, to sporty luxe or rock glam, it can transform itself like crazy. Buying one, will probably pay off big time as you can wear it from work to weekends with just the right styling.

When buying your leather fitted skirt make sure it has a high waist. Quilted and zipper ones look fabulous!  If this will be your statement piece for the cold season, there are so many options for styling it. Never owned a leather skirt before? You’ll be wearing the crap out of it I promise.

Casual Outfit Ideas

The weather today was perfect! A walk at the park with Charlie was a must and so I decided to keep my outfit casual and comfortable. I love wearing loose sweaters and skinny jeans throughout the fall and winter time. I found this mint coloured sweater from Dynamite last year and my skinny jeans are from H&M.

Find similar sweaters here.

Fashion Friday: Sweater Weather

November 4, 2016

I hate to say it but winter is near, folks. Before I start wearing a winter coat, I decided to keep myself warm by wearing this sweater that I purchased at Dynamite. They have a wide range of sweaters and cardigans you can shop for here. I dread the winter and I only stand it during Christmas time. That’s pretty much it.

I decided to wear my black Material Girl skinny jeans from Hudson’s Bay.

The black heels that I am wearing are from Nine West.

Handbag is from H&M.

Watch is from Michael Kors, you can find it here.

Inspired by Fall: Sweater Dresses and Knee High Boots

October 21, 2016

It’s a rainy, cold and windy day where I am from. But a little bad weather didn’t stop me from taking some pictures for this post. Fall inspires me to wear darker and bolder colours. I stay away from any lighter shades and stick to colours such as browns, burgundy, beige, black, dark green and red just to name a few.

I love sweater dresses paired with knee high boots or ankle boots and tights. I especially love sweater dresses because they are cozy and such an easy outfit idea. There’s nothing like looking great and feeling cozy at the same time.

I got this sweater dress from Winners. I tend to find some fabulous outfits at Winners all of the time!

The knee high boots are from Call it Spring. I purchased them last year and I always find myself reaching for them during the Autumn and Winter.

I love burgundy for fall and I especially love that this dress has no buttons or zippers. You can just slip it right on. It’s easy to dress up with a necklace, choker or even a watch just like I did. I am wearing the Blair Rose Gold-Tone Chronograph Watch by Michael Kors.

I definitely think you should add some sweater dresses to your style this fall. It’s so cozy, versatile and a fabulous addition to your wardrobe.

I’ve found similar sweater dresses that may spark your interest which are all available online:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Inspired by Fall – Style Wish List

October 11, 2016

Fall always means new fashion trends to look out for. My style focus this season is a balance between being COMFORTABLE and TIMELESS. These are two words I keep gravitating to when I think about what I want to convey through my style and to feel when I’ve finished getting dressed each day. I am no stranger to the habit of shopping last minute for an outfit before an event or a party but I’ve decided to prepare for this season’s trends by creating  a wish list. Keep in mind, you can wear all of these items during the Winter season as well!

Here’s what’s on my wish list right now:

Since I am aiming for comfort, I’ve added velvet ankle boots to my wish list. Not only are velvet boots in this season, but they are also super comfortable especially if they have a chunkier heel. I like pairing ankle boots with skinny or boyfriend jeans or a pair of cropped trousers for that edgy look.

You’ll be seeing a lot of these this season. This is a very 70’s chic look. They look incredibly comfortable which is exactly what I need for this fall. I’d also like to point out that these tops are fun, dramatic and perfect for going out.

Fall wouldn’t be the same without owning a few turtle necks. I have indeed already purchased not one but two fitted turtle necks. I like pairing my turtle necks with skinny jeans and long boots. For a comfortable look, you can pull your hair up in a ponytail and add a bold colour to your lips!

These scarves are totally timeless. I am waiting to find the perfect one in some sort of luxurious cashmere knit that I can wear forever. Scarves are always perfect for days when you want to add warmth and comfort to the way you feel. You can pair these scarves with a red lipstick to add a bold touch to your look.

I’ve always wanted to buy a fedora for the fall. They definitely add a certain class to your whole ensemble. Did you know the word fedora comes from the title of an 1882 play by dramatist Victorien Sardou, Fédora? Look it up! The hat also became a fashion statement for Women’s Rights activists in the mid 1920’s-1940’s. A timeless fashion statement if you ask me.

What fashion items are on your wish list?

Inspired by Fall: Makeup and Outfit Ideas

September 30, 2016

Fall makeup and beauty trends always catch my interest. The temperature has dropped since my last post so I put my shorts away, tear* and brought out my favourite leather jacket. I guess that’s a decent trade, for now.

Below I share a makeup look I like to sport during the fall season and some outfit ideas that are perfect for fall 🙂

Let’s begin with the makeup look. To achieve this look I used the first NAKED Palette by Urban Decay on my eyes. I used a few colours: I swept Naked all over my eyelids, and Buck as my transition colour in my crease. I also used the Third Edition – 120 Colour Eyeshadow Palette by BH Cosmetics and applied a burgundy and gold colour to my eyes. I used the Ink Liner by Kat Von D to create a simple winged liner, nothing too dramatic. For my eyelashes, I used the mascara by L’oreal Paris called Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara.

I used the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation on my face. For my cheeks I applied the blush by NARS Cosmetics called Taos. I decided to skip the bronzer that day!

For my lips I used the Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Liner in the colour 4C, (it’s waterproof too). As a simple touch, I applied a lip balm called the Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter by Burt’s Bees since my lips were extremely dry that day.

I love wearing burgundy during the fall. I paired this fit and flare dress that I received as a gift with black ankle booties I purchased at the end of last winter. I did find a few sites that carry fall dresses for you:

Forever 21

JC Penney

As for ankle boots, they are always my go to shoe during the fall! Here are some sites that I found that may interest you:

Call it Spring

Aldo Shoes

A spontaneous photo shoot in an alley way turned into some great photos for this post. I’m wearing slim fit pants that were purchased at H&M. You can find similar ones here. I love these pants for the autumn season because of the darker colour and I love how comfortable they are!

A leather jacket is a must in my closet! I love wearing them on any day (rain or shine). I purchased mine a few years ago but I spotted some cool ones for you at H&M that you just might like.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Happy Autumn everyone 🙂
