Heels for the Holidays

November 30, 2016

The holiday season is officially in full swing so that means more parties and functions to attend. Not only is a killer outfit necessary this holiday season, but also a pair of heels that make you stand out from everyone else.

When shopping for holiday heels, be careful not to mix up tasteful and tacky – too much glitter is never a good idea. To keep yourself away from being tacky, try looking for velvets, metallic silvers and golds, and of course, only some sparkle.

I have rounded up a few of my favourite heels for the holidays below. Which pair do you like most?

Heels for the Holidays

Nina – Wine Velvet, $29.99, Lola Shoetique

These heels are ideal for nearly any occasion whether it be casual or even a formal event. This is the perfect heel to wear with an evening gown or a short dress. These heels are open toe and have a sexy stiletto heel as well. Available in Black Velvet and Wine Velvet.

Heels for the Holidays

Ritz & Glitz – Silver, $29.99, Lola Shoetique

These are the perfect party heels! Even better, metallics are in this season! These heels are open toe, stiletto heels and have an ankle lace-up with embellished tassels on the back. Available in Gold and Silver.

Heels for the Holidays

Barsha Lace-up Pumps, Vince Camuto, $110, Nordstrom

If you’re looking for a classy heel, I would highly recommend this black suede pair by Vince Camuto. These heels are beautiful on because of the lace-up feature and the heel is not too high which makes them comfortable to wear to parties.

Heels for the Holidays

Bodell Lace-up Pumps, Vince Camuto, $109, Nordstrom

These pumps are similar to the Barsha pumps above except they are in red. Red is always an easy go to colour during the holidays and these heels have just the right amount of style and class.

Heels for the Holidays

MERLOT Sequin Boots, $89, Topshop

These are not your average heels. They feature a chunky heel for comfort and so much character with the shiny sequin details. These will make a simple outfit stand out and you’ll be getting compliments all night if you decide to wear them to a party. I would also suggest pairing these heels with a neutral wardrobe because they will definitely add enough character to the whole outfit!

Heels for the Holidays

Cessi in Bordeaux Suede, $120, Aldo

Keep your feet warm but still looking stylish this holiday season with this pair of heels. I especially love the gold zipper at the back! These heels are quite versatile because they can be worn with a skirt or with jeans on a casual day.

Heels for the Holidays

Heavenly – Nude, $29.99, Lola Shoetique

I absolutely love these heels because of the metallic details and the stiletto heel. Available in Black, Nude and Rose.

Heels for the Holidays Own the Night, $41.99, Lola Shoetique

Wear these heels with a mid-length or above the knee dress because you don’t want to hide them! These heels feature an open toe, stiletto heel, metallic details, and a zipper at the back. Available in black, mauve and nude.

Christmas M&M Cookies

November 24, 2016

Chocolate Chip and M&M Christmas Cookies

The holidays are just around the corner and sometimes we get super busy working, planning parties or taking care of last minute shopping which leaves us with little time to bake. This easy recipe is perfect for people who still wish to offer their friends and family a delicious treat made at home. I love this recipe because the red and green M&M’s add to the festive look and did I mention that they are super chewy?

How to Make these Cookies:

You will need:

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup of white sugar
1 cup of packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

To add on top of the cookies once they’re finished baking, you’ll need 1 cup of the Christmas M&M’s.

1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees

2. Mix together the softened butter, white sugar and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat in the eggs one at a time and then add the vanilla extract. Dissolve the baking soda in hot water. Add to the batter along with the salt. Stir in the flour and the chocolate chips.

3. Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges look golden.

4. Add the Christmas M&M’s to the top of the cookies once they’re baked.

This is such an easy recipe that makes for a festive snack for you and your guests!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Halloween Makeup | Paint Splatter Skeleton

October 14, 2016

Halloween has been one of my favourite holidays since I was a kid. I decided to create a skeleton look but with paint splattered all over my face and neck. The whole idea of splattering my face with paint sounded messy but let me tell you, it looks so cool and it was so much fun! I received so many compliments. This is the perfect combination of spooky and enchantingly beautiful.

The products that you’ll need to re-create this look:

White, Black and Purple (this colour is up to you) face paint from Snazaroo

BH Cosmetics 88 Color Shimmer Palette (Used Pink and Purple in the crease and used a yellow shimmer on my eyelids)

Kat Von D Ink Liner to Draw Lines and to add depth

Ardell Lashes in the style “Glamour” 138 Black

Urban Decay Cosmetics 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Black to fill in my eyes

Black and Grey Eyeshadow, I used the ones in the BH Cosmetics Palette

A medium Paintbrush to splatter the paint with at the end (you can purchase this at any dollar store)

Purple Glitter or any colour you prefer

Hair Wig (you can purchase this at any costume store)

Face paintbrush (I prefer a thin brush typically used for eyeliner application)

Step by Step Guide:

1- Apply a makeup primer to your face and neck, I like using the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer

2- Apply white face paint to your face and lips using a sponge, let it dry for 5 minutes, you can use a translucent powder to set it

3- Start drawing any shapes or designs around your eyes. Map out where your skull eye sockets will go with the eye pencil by drawing circles that go above your brows and down around your under eye area.  Fill your eyes in with a black eye pencil (I used the Urban Decay Eye Pencil). For a defined eye, add a black liner to your waterline.

4- Apply the eyeshadow colours you prefer

5 – Apply the black and grey eyeshadows to your forehead, under your cheeks to create that hollow effect

6- Draw the teeth using a Black Liner

7 – Apply the false lashes

8 – Make an upside down U-shape on the bridge of your nose with a black face paintbrush. Then, follow the bend on the outside of your nose and fill everything in.

9 – Take an eye shadow brush and apply the black paint to the inside of your lips to add some depth. Take a thin brush and draw a black line from the corner of your mouth out to elongate it on both sides. Then, draw a line through the center of the mouth to connect them.

10 – Draw the teeth by starting in the middle of your lips and working outwards

11 – Draw the bones on your neck using the black and white paint, this does not have to be perfect! Get creative!

12 – Finish the look by painting on some freestyle embellishments.

13 – Using a medium paintbrush, dip the brush in the colourful paint and splatter it close to your face and neck. Then, throw some glitter on your face to add a sweet effect

Happy Haunting!
