Review + Tutorial: Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Soft Glam Palette

March 13, 2018

Anastasia Beverly Hills recently released the Soft Glam Palette and it’s everything!

From gorgeous shimmers to stunning mattes, this eyeshadow palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills ($55 CAD), is neutral heaven. One way I like to describe these shades is they melt on to your skin and are packed with pigment. This palette is definitely great for everyone! It was created as a neutral palette with touch of glitz for a reason: it is meant to be a go-to for anyone, it transitions beautifully from day to night, and is a dream for makeup lovers because it can be used to create sultry smokey looks as well.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette features 14 shades, is a curated ensemble of nudes, pastels and warm peaches that I have been seriously excited about!

Soft Glam is the brand’s toned out version of the Modern Renaissance Palette, and the shades are true to its name – soft and glam. There are pastels, nudes, browns, burgundies and glittery eyeshadows all in one palette.

There are some very pretty dusky mauve roses here combined with sultry browns, shimmering golds, browns, and peaches. If you glance at it quickly, the colors just jive together beautifully but there are a few odd shades here that you might question like Orange Soda which is a light matte peach. But somehow, someway, the shades just work together and I honestly had no trouble thinking up ways to combine the shades into a look.

The shadows are a range of mostly matte and softly pressed metallics and light iridescent shades. For the most part though, the matte does dominate here but I’m fine with that as they make a nice base. The metallics and iridescent shades are a lovely compliment that can you can come up with later to finish off your look.

Like the previous palettes, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette consists of very creams shades. They remind me of melted butter. The texture is so, so soft. Especially the very loosely packed metallic which almost have a cream-like consistency and a very velvety, soft texture. The pigment is quite impressive as I experienced no patchiness during application just a smoothened perfect application. Believe me when I tell you, the shades are super creamy and pigmented that I don’t even think I’ll need a primer!

Shades include:

  • Tempera (ultra-matte velvety beige)
  • Glistening (iridescent gold with a hint of pink reflect)
  • Orange Soda (ultra-matte pastel peach)
  • Rose Pink (rose gold with a soft pink iridescent hue)
  • Sultry (hybrid satin metallic finish warm chocolate brown)
  • Bronze (metallic gold bronze)
  • Mulberry (ultra-matte mulberry)
  • Dusty Rose (ultra-matte dusty lilac)
  • Fairy (multi-imensional light gold)
  • Burnt Orange (ultra-matte deep orange)
  • Sienna (ultra-matte earthy brown)
  • Rustic (ultra-matte deep cinnamon brown)
  • Cyprus Umber (ultra-matte dark coffee)
  • Noir (ultra-matte deep carbon black

This was a purchase that I don’t regret and will be making a lot of use out of these shades!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette is available at Sephora & Ulta Beauty.

Anyone purchase it?

What was your experience with it?

Pros and Cons: Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette

January 29, 2018
Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette

Great news: I’ve finally purchased the Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette and I’m excited to share my thoughts on it with you!

Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette

Let me start with the pros:

If you follow my blog, you know I love unique looking packaging and Kat Von D wins my heart each and every time. The contour palette comes in a sturdy cardboard box and since I ordered it online, I was pleased to see how well it was packaged. It’s a black and silver palette that’s perfect to travel with which made me so very happy. The edgy look of this palette surely influenced my decision to purchase it, and, oh, the shades of course!

Once you open the Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette, you will see that it comes with a handy guide for how to define cheekbones, slim the face and shape the nose. Inside the palette is a full-sized mirror which is super helpful for those of you who travel quite frequently! The palette closes shut with secure magnets so don’t worry when you put it in your makeup bag or your purse, it’s not easy for it to open.

The shade and light contour palette comes with 6 different matte powders, three of which are highlight shades and three of which are contouring and bronzing shades. The highlight shades are smaller than the contouring shades (which is a con). On the bright side, you won’t be using the highlight shades as much as the contour shades. The best news is that the contour shades are all different and can be used for different makeup looks. This palette will transform your contour. I’ve used other contour palettes and a lot of them throw very similar contour shades which is quite limiting for someone who wants to experiment and try different shades.

All of the shades have unique names and it adds to the fun of makeup application! Keep in mind these are all refillable so once you run out of a shade, you just have to purchase the one shade!

Lucid: This is a pale pink/beige toned powder which will work better for brightening up the under-eye circles for those of you with pale/fair skin. I use this shade to set my concealer. You can mix the highlight shades to create the best results for your skin tone.

Lyric: this has to be my favorite banana powder ever! What I love most about it is it instantly brightens up my face and it’s not messy when applied with a brush. I try not to use too much of it because I want to save it for special occasions or glam looks.

Levitation: This is a great setting powder for deeper skin tones. It may look orange in the palette but it swatches lighter and blends on the skin quite smoothly. Also the orange tone can work well at correcting dark/ashy tones.

Sombre: So you want that chiseled look? This is the shade for you. Trust me, I have noticed the difference it makes to my face. The fatty foods I consumed during the holidays are not a big deal to me since I’ve been cheating with this shade! Also for any of you who like to nose contour a little this will be your best friend.

Shadowplay: This shade is darker and slightly warmer than Sombre, meaning you can get a great contour with this as well as a fake touch of sun. I usually reach for this shade when I need a quick bronzed look.

Subconscious: This is the darkest shade in the palette but it would be hard for someone who has pale/light skin to use it for a quick look without looking muddy. You must blend this shade very well to avoid that muddy look! If you have fair skin, I highly recommend mixing it with a powder foundation so that it doesn’t appear too harsh on the skin or leave you with any visible lines. The trick is to blend well and I do find that you have to blend like crazy when applying this shade so it isn’t my go-to shade, that’s for sure.

The powder formula in the Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Palette is quite pigmented and very soft. One thing I did notice is you need to lightly dip your brush into the pan because the brush will lift more powder than you will need. I find that one stroke of the brush into the powder is enough for a desired look. The pans should last you a long time if you don’t go crazy and dip your brush too hard into the pans.

This is a great palette for those of you who want value for your money. The powders will last you a very long time as you don’t need to use a lot to achieve a highlight and contour look.

Therefore, the biggest con is the size of the highlight shades compared to the contour shades but like I mentioned above, you won’t be using the highlight shades as much as the contour shades!

Full Review and Swatches: Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation by FENTY BEAUTY

January 9, 2018
Fenty Foundation Review

I’ve been waiting to review the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation by FENTY BEAUTY for weeks now! Well, it’s finally here!

    Fenty Foundation Review

Warning: Do not try to guess which colour would match you looking at swatches online, go into the store and get the right colour for your skin. Remember, the foundation dries a bit darker so going into the store is a must!

As you can see from the image above, there are 40 different shades featured in the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation by FENTY BEAUTY. The shades range from light to deep tones, luckily, if you can’t find the perfect shade for you, you can even mix two shades.

Fenty Foundation

After three attempts, I finally found a shade that matches my skin tone. I’m currently using the shade #200 because I have olive toned skin but it gets lighter during the winter time. I will most likely need to darken the shade in the summer but if you’re like me, you know that mixing foundations can be even better than sticking to just one. If you’d like to try this foundation, you can purchase it at any Sephora store.

Fenty Foundation

Make sure to shake the bottle well before applying it to your skin because this is a fast drying formula. In addition, you should use a primer before applying any foundation so that you can avoid any unevenness or any blotchiness. I like to use this foundation only for going out on the weekends because I prefer the “no foundation look” on most days.

You will notice that this foundation is easy to blend and dries pretty quickly upon application but isn’t chalky or too dry looking in case you’re wondering about that. For full coverage, I prefer the dry look and using a foundation brush to apply it to my face. For a dewy look, I opt for a damp beauty blender and by doing this, you can have full control over how much coverage you want this foundation to give you.

I suggest pumping on your fingertips and then applying the foundation on one side of your face to avoid any dryness or patchy areas. I love the foundation but since it is a matte finish, it dries VERY FAST so you don’t want to prep both sides of your face, just prep one side and blend it into your skin in a fast yet gentle motion.

Absolutely, however, only if you set it with a loose powder! Please don’t forget to set your makeup if you plan on having it on all day. You will notice that you have to touch up once or twice throughout the day and that is if you have oily areas on your face like me. If you are someone who is constantly on the go but want a natural foundation, the  Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation by FENTY BEAUTY is perfect for you.

I’ve only taken one picture wearing this foundation and it definitely lives up to the reviews. It is a great and affordable foundation that can be worn during photoshoots, live videos and any on-camera moments!

It’s quite affordable, allows my skin to breathe without clogging my pores, it is an oil-free formula and it is 100% cruelty free!!!! Thank you Rihanna!

Fenty Beauty delivers one of the best foundations I’ve used in a long time. Although I rarely wear foundation, this is the one I’ll be reaching for when I need one! At a solid price point and a lot of product for your buck, you’ll be favouriting this foundation in no time!

Makeup Obsessed: Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Eyeshadow Palette

January 5, 2018
Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Eyeshadow Palette

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

The Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Eyeshadow Palette was a Christmas gift to myself and I have so much to say about it!

Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Eyeshadow Palette

Kat Von D Saints & Sinners Palette

As you can see, this is a stunningly beautiful eyeshadow palette! I love the packaging and I absolutely love the trending colours that come in the palette. I usually throw makeup boxes out right after I open them, but I saved this one!

The Kat Von D Saints & Sinners Palette is a two-sided palette that opens like French doors (how cool is that). One side is the Saints side which features lighter/softer shades  and the other is the Sinner side which features bolder shades. This eyeshadow palette comes with 24 unique shades that are quite bendable and easy to apply.

You get everything in this palette, from mattes, shimmers, metallics, and special effect glimmer shades. The colors are all very nuanced and different than most of the palettes on the market. The shades are perfect for someone who wants to have everything in one palette.

After researching this palette, I found out that the shades were inspired by the colors you see in stained glass windows in churches and the kaleidoscope effect they have when light dances through them.

Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Palette

Starting from the Bottom to Top: Heaven, Rapture, Worship, Immaculate, Devil, Exodus and Revelation

Heaven: Described as a metallic silver but with just one swatch this colour blew me away! The shade is highly pigmented and very smooth.

Rapture: This is a rosy pink with pink super glimmer. This shade tends to have heavy fallout but fortunately, it performs when applied with a wet brush. This is a warm rosy pink that can be a shade you use to enhance a pink or a red shade.

Worship: Described as a pearlescent eggplant. Its super pigmented but the finish is a restrained metallic, a true pearlized finish.

Immaculate: This shade reminds me of an olive green. This is a subtle shade that can be deepened if more product is applied.

Devil: This is a matte pumpkin orange. This shade excites me and I can’t wait to use it. Blends so beautifully on the eyes with or without an eyeshadow primer!

Exodus: Described as chartreuse with gold glitter. This is beautifully pigmented and I can’t wait to use it!

Revelation: This a brown with gold glitter that I’d like to use for a super glam look.

Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with this palette! It was such a great purchase because it has 24 versatile shades and finishes.

Let me just say that the Kat Von D Saints & Sinners Palette is one of my all-time favourite makeup purchases!

August 2, 2017

Hi beauties! Since I’m a sucker for lip products, I will be reviewing the ever so popular Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Glosses. I received a sample size to try a few months ago and I finally had a chance to give you an honest review.

These lip glosses can be found on the Sephora website, Ulta and of course the Anastasia Beverly Hills website. There are various shades to choose from and they retail at a fair price of $16 USD.

I love Anastasia Beverly Hills’ products because they are Vegan friendly as well as cruelty free!

The Anastasia Beverly Hills glosses are extremely pigmented and creamy. They are not sticky but they are thick in texture and they feel very moisturizing on the lips which I like. They have a vanilla cream scent to them that fades after you apply the gloss on your lips. The packaging is simple and I love the applicator as it is spongey and picks up enough lip gloss each time you pull it out of the tube.

As you can see the shade “Potion” in my picture below, is VERY pigmented and you can also see that it has a shiny finish which is incredibly beautiful. You can wear these glosses alone, or you can apply it as a top gloss over your lipstick for a bold look. If you’re like me, you can mix and match the gloss with some of your lipsticks to create your own unique colour/shade.

Sephora Illuminate Palette Review and Swatches

May 29, 2017

Hey everyone! With the summer being just around the corner I decided to purchase the new Sephora Illuminate Palette to get glowing skin. I read reviews on the Sephora website and people are going crazy over it with a 4.5/5 stars! I will be doing a first impression and swatch post for this palette because I love it so much.

This palette is great for all skin tones and contains “a mix of both warm and cool shades that work for all skintones and can be mixed to create a customizable glow.” In my opinion, this is quite comparable to the Anastasia Ultimate Glow Kit with it’s range of shades from true white to deep bronze. I do mix some shades together to create different looks with it, I do have naturally olive toned skin so most of the shades work well for me. I have tested the longevity of the shades and surprisingly, when applied with a setting spray they last throughout the day!

These shades have numbers:

#1 is a light, cool toned pink. This shade is similar to the Lorac highlighter in Moonlight. However, this is more pigmented and has a multidimensional shimmer, which makes it bolder than the Lorac.

#2 is a medium champagne shade that isn’t too warm. Similar to Champagne Pop by BECCA!

#3 is a pearly white, this is similar to BECCA Pearl

#4 is a pale gold that is similar to BECCA Moonnstone in my opinion.

#5 is a beautiful deep bronze shade.

#6 A deep pink shade that I usually mix with #3

Shades from left to right: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #6.

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

My impression of this palette is that I will be using these shades all summer long to illuminate my face, shoulders and wherever I need a pretty glow. This palette is not powdery and the shades have a medium buildable pigment. The price is incredible for what you get in this palette and I can already tell that it will last me for a long time. I love this palette because there are three BECCA dupes all in one! If you’re curious and want to try it, just go to Sephora and test it out on your skin. Keep in mind, the shades look amazing on your skin if you use a setting spray first! Not only is this palette affordable it is also quite versatile which can be used to achieve various makeup looks.

What are some of your favourite highlighters?

xo, Yvonne K.

10 Must Have Items from Too Faced Cosmetics

January 20, 2017

Too Faced Cosmetics is one of my favourite lines of makeup available at Sephora. Their products smell amazing and best of all, they are ALL cruelty free! Their products are among my daily staples (the chocolate soleil bronzer and the neutral eye collections). If you haven’t tried them out, now is the time to start!

1. Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer: This eyeshadow primer is way up there for me because it keeps any eyeshadow that I apply in place! I would recommend using this primer with loose shadows because it is thicker and holds your look together without any smudging. This shadow primer helps prevent any creasing or fading.

2. Chocolate Soleil Bronzer:  It smells like chocolate and it is a matte bronzer that is perfect for any time of the year. A bronzer that lasts all day and can be used to shape and contour your face as well.

3. Primed and Poreless Face Primer: I tried a sample of this product because I needed to create a smooth foundation finish. My foundation applied beautifully over it and it lasted all night! If you want to hide your pores then this is a great primer to use.

4. Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara: Thicker, fuller and sexier lashes is what you’ll get after using this mascara. I prefer the waterproof mascara because I have sensitive eyes and regular mascara irritates my eyes throughout the day.

5. Lip Injection Power Plumping Lip Gloss:  I tried this lip plumper and I was impressed with how plump my lips became after one application. I don’t use this everyday but only when I am trying to achieve a glam look for the evening. The formula is not sticky and keeps your lips looking glossy and plump.

6. Born this Way Concealer:  I’m in love with this concealer’s ability to hide any dark circles I may have been suffering from. A little bit goes a long way with this product and it lasts all day. I love using this product without any foundation since it does the job of covering up any blemish on my face.

7. Peach Eye Shadow Palette:  As soon as you open this palette you’ll be taken away with the smell of peaches. I simply love this palette and Too Faced outdid themselves with it. There is a mix of matte and shimmery shadows that blend easily. I usually don’t need a primer with these eye shadows only because they are so creamy and highly pigmented. Sometimes I get lazy, we all do!

8. Natural Eyes Neutral Eye Shadow Collection:  I frequently use this palette to create an everyday look. It’s a bit warmer and has more shimmer in it than the Peach Palette I listed above.

9. La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipstick: Perfect for those of you who are always on the go! This is a lipstick that I like to keep in my purse just in case I need to go somewhere fancy. This lipstick is long lasting and does not dry out my lips.

10. Too Faced Born this Way Foundation: Tried a sample of this foundation at Sephora and I loved it! It is oil-free and provides full coverage for those days your skin is being problematic. I also loved the smell of this foundation since it includes ingredients such as coconut water and alpine rose. This foundation leaves your skin looking flawless and natural.

Holiday Makeup

Halloween Makeup | Paint Splatter Skeleton

October 14, 2016

Halloween has been one of my favourite holidays since I was a kid. I decided to create a skeleton look but with paint splattered all over my face and neck. The whole idea of splattering my face with paint sounded messy but let me tell you, it looks so cool and it was so much fun! I received so many compliments. This is the perfect combination of spooky and enchantingly beautiful.

The products that you’ll need to re-create this look:

White, Black and Purple (this colour is up to you) face paint from Snazaroo

BH Cosmetics 88 Color Shimmer Palette (Used Pink and Purple in the crease and used a yellow shimmer on my eyelids)

Kat Von D Ink Liner to Draw Lines and to add depth

Ardell Lashes in the style “Glamour” 138 Black

Urban Decay Cosmetics 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Black to fill in my eyes

Black and Grey Eyeshadow, I used the ones in the BH Cosmetics Palette

A medium Paintbrush to splatter the paint with at the end (you can purchase this at any dollar store)

Purple Glitter or any colour you prefer

Hair Wig (you can purchase this at any costume store)

Face paintbrush (I prefer a thin brush typically used for eyeliner application)

Step by Step Guide:

1- Apply a makeup primer to your face and neck, I like using the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer

2- Apply white face paint to your face and lips using a sponge, let it dry for 5 minutes, you can use a translucent powder to set it

3- Start drawing any shapes or designs around your eyes. Map out where your skull eye sockets will go with the eye pencil by drawing circles that go above your brows and down around your under eye area.  Fill your eyes in with a black eye pencil (I used the Urban Decay Eye Pencil). For a defined eye, add a black liner to your waterline.

4- Apply the eyeshadow colours you prefer

5 – Apply the black and grey eyeshadows to your forehead, under your cheeks to create that hollow effect

6- Draw the teeth using a Black Liner

7 – Apply the false lashes

8 – Make an upside down U-shape on the bridge of your nose with a black face paintbrush. Then, follow the bend on the outside of your nose and fill everything in.

9 – Take an eye shadow brush and apply the black paint to the inside of your lips to add some depth. Take a thin brush and draw a black line from the corner of your mouth out to elongate it on both sides. Then, draw a line through the center of the mouth to connect them.

10 – Draw the teeth by starting in the middle of your lips and working outwards

11 – Draw the bones on your neck using the black and white paint, this does not have to be perfect! Get creative!

12 – Finish the look by painting on some freestyle embellishments.

13 – Using a medium paintbrush, dip the brush in the colourful paint and splatter it close to your face and neck. Then, throw some glitter on your face to add a sweet effect

Happy Haunting!

Review: Maybelline FIT Me Foundation (Matte + Poreless)

October 11, 2016

New foundation alert!

After reading an article about Kim Kardashion’s favourite foundations, I decided that I had to try at least one of them. The Maybelline FIT Me Foundation (Matte + Poreless) is not just good, it’s amazing. I usually purchase high end foundations for my combination/sensitive skin, so I was on the fence at first but I decided it was worth a try especially since it receives great reviews on plenty of makeup sites.

Here’s why I love this foundation:

If you have oily/combination skin and prefer a medium-full coverage then this foundation is right up your alley. The best part? It doesn’t cost as much as higher end foundations. It is completely fragrance free and has not given my sensitive acne-prone skin any bad reactions. I don’t need to touch up throughout the day because it is a matte foundation. There are 12 shades to choose from and the colour matching is beyond what I expected. It really does help minimize the appearance of pores as well!

I bought the shade Natural Beige in #220. This foundation dries quickly and it dries to a velvety finish and while it does work well applied with fingers or a buffing brush, I found the most natural application was with a beautyblender sponge which can be purchased at Sephora. If you want light coverage, simply apply a dime size amount of the foundation to your face and blend it with a damp beautyblender. If you prefer heavier coverage, you can apply more product to the beautyblender and you’re set! This foundation is very easy to blend into the skin, the only downside is that it isn’t buildable.

I’ve been using this foundation for a month now and I simply love the longevity and the way it feels on my skin. I do use a setting powder by Laura Mercier (but I also got a good 8 hours of coverage before blotting when I didn’t set it with powder) and it’s affordable which makes it the perfect foundation for me.

Have you tried this foundation yet?
