Inspired by Fall: Makeup and Outfit Ideas

September 30, 2016

Fall makeup and beauty trends always catch my interest. The temperature has dropped since my last post so I put my shorts away, tear* and brought out my favourite leather jacket. I guess that’s a decent trade, for now.

Below I share a makeup look I like to sport during the fall season and some outfit ideas that are perfect for fall 🙂

Let’s begin with the makeup look. To achieve this look I used the first NAKED Palette by Urban Decay on my eyes. I used a few colours: I swept Naked all over my eyelids, and Buck as my transition colour in my crease. I also used the Third Edition – 120 Colour Eyeshadow Palette by BH Cosmetics and applied a burgundy and gold colour to my eyes. I used the Ink Liner by Kat Von D to create a simple winged liner, nothing too dramatic. For my eyelashes, I used the mascara by L’oreal Paris called Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara.

I used the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation on my face. For my cheeks I applied the blush by NARS Cosmetics called Taos. I decided to skip the bronzer that day!

For my lips I used the Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Liner in the colour 4C, (it’s waterproof too). As a simple touch, I applied a lip balm called the Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter by Burt’s Bees since my lips were extremely dry that day.

I love wearing burgundy during the fall. I paired this fit and flare dress that I received as a gift with black ankle booties I purchased at the end of last winter. I did find a few sites that carry fall dresses for you:

Forever 21

JC Penney

As for ankle boots, they are always my go to shoe during the fall! Here are some sites that I found that may interest you:

Call it Spring

Aldo Shoes

A spontaneous photo shoot in an alley way turned into some great photos for this post. I’m wearing slim fit pants that were purchased at H&M. You can find similar ones here. I love these pants for the autumn season because of the darker colour and I love how comfortable they are!

A leather jacket is a must in my closet! I love wearing them on any day (rain or shine). I purchased mine a few years ago but I spotted some cool ones for you at H&M that you just might like.

Hope you enjoyed this post! Happy Autumn everyone 🙂

Easy Glamorous Makeup

September 8, 2016

I get extremely excited whenever my friends ask me to do their makeup. This time, my friend requested a simple yet glamorous look with lady danger by MAC. You can try this look during any season, its quite the versatile look 🙂

Many of you have asked which products I used to create this look so I made a list and added a brief summary of each below!

Makeup Up For Ever HD Foundation

This foundation is amazing if you’re going to be taking selfies all night. I used a damp beauty blender and evenly applied this foundation. For a simple look, I did not apply too much foundation since my friend wanted a not so heavy kind of look.

Radiant Creamy Concealer by NARS

For the concealer, I used this one by NARS. I absolutely love NARS cosmetics since you get what you pay for. This creamy concealer goes a long way. I love that you only need a little bit, dab it with a damp beauty blender and you’ll be golden! I applied this just above the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, between the eyebrows, and on any red areas.

Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation

Since my friend was going out, she needed some extra coverage but also natural looking coverage. The best product in mind was the Cover FX pressed Mineral Foundation. I love this powder because it also sets your foundation for you and does not look overdone. I evenly applied this powder after both the foundation and concealer had a chance to sit on her skin for a few minutes. I used a blush brush to apply this product because it does not pick up too much product all at once.

Maybelline Facestudio Master Contour V-Shape Stick

Contouring is a must if you want to add some definition to your face. I love this contour stick because its all in one and it’s incredibly easy to use. I applied the darker side under the hair line, on the nose to create a slimming look, and on the cheekbones. I always make sure to blend this product very well or else there will be visible lines and that is not a flattering look.

Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade

I have an obsession with this product. It creates a natural look for your eyebrows. I used a thin angled brush to fill in any sparse areas. I also love this product because it lasts all day long even when you sweat.

Kat Von D Ink Liner

To create a flawless winged liner, I used the Ink Liner by Kat Von D. This is the ultimate liner of all liners out there. Unfortunately, this liner ran out as I was doing my friend’s makeup but I got it to finish the job by dampening the tip of the pen with a tiny amount of water and I shook that pen until my wrist started to hurt. Love this liner because it lasts and lasts! It won’t go anywhere if that’s your concern! I also love how easy it is to draw a wing using this pen. The finishing look is flawless and has a slight shine to it. I created a simple winged liner, she did not want a dramatic winged look for that occasion.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

For this look, I only used two eyeshadow colours. The first one was nooner, and I applied this in the crease of the eyes and blended with a medium eyeshadow brush. The key is to apply a small amount of product to the crease and blend, blend and blend! The other colour that I used was trick, I applied this to the lower lash line and the inner corners of her eyes. This is such a beautiful compilation of shimmery and matte eyeshadows. Love it!

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara

No need to curl your lashes, this mascara already does it for you. This mascara creates a sexy and wide eyed look that is perfect for a night out! I applied two coats of this mascara on the top and lower lashes.

Lancome Bronzer: STAR

I used this bronzer to add some lift and colour to my friend’s face. I love this bronzer because it doesn’t just sit on the face, it brings it to life. I applied this bronzer on the forehead, cheekbones to create that simple sun kissed glow.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder

As a highlight, I chose this one, and it is by far the best highlighter on the market. You must try this and you’ll see for yourself. I love the texture, and I love that it adds that needed glow to the skin. I applied this lights just on the apple of the cheeks.

Lady Danger by MAC Cosmetics

To finish the look off, I used this beautiful red lipstick by MAC. Since my friend has full lips, I skipped the liner and simply applied the lipstick by itself. This is a creamy but matte finish. I absolutely adore this lipstick since it can take a simple/natural makeup look to a classic/glam makeup look in just seconds!

My Favourite Summer Lipsticks by MAC

April 18, 2016

It’s safe to say that summertime is near and it’s a great idea to start switching your beauty routine. I’ve gathered four of my favourite lipsticks by MAC which are all perfect for the warm weather that is just around the corner!

This is the brightest colour from my selection of lipsticks. This is the Matte Pink Pigeon by MAC. I must say that its always best to try these lipsticks on before purchasing them. Sometimes we may like how a lipsticks looks on someone else and then find out that it just doesn’t suit our very own skin tones. This is a bright pink with a super matte finish. I love wearing this lipstick in the summer because it brings out my eyes and works very well with my olive skin tone. The colour seems to last for a few hours, through a couple of teas or coffees, and even a snack or two. Those of you who love bright and shocking colours will love this pink lipstick for sure. This lipstick is also very opaque in texture and goes on smoothly so it doesn’t have that drying look. If you have severely dry lips then exfoliating them beforehand will definitely help you achieve that smooth finish.

This is a beautiful lavender violet lipstick called Up the Amp Amplified by MAC. This is a blue-toned purple lipstick. This is definitely not an everyday lipstick and it is a bit edgy and daring, but whenever I feel like adding some purple to my lips this is the lipstick that I reach for.

This lipstick is the “Amplified” formula,  which goes on smoothly, has a very creamy feel to it and the colour is opaque. It has a shiny finish and doesn’t dry my lips. This lipstick is wearable on a wide range of skin tones from light – dark. This is a bold colour but nothing over the top. It has a lasting finish and a few touch ups are required here and there.

A coral lipstick that I fell in love with! This is Vegas Volt by MAC. This is a bright coral lipstick that has a creamy finish. I love wearing this lipstick when my skin is tanned and my hair is darker in colour. Vegas Volt is a classic colour by MAC and is one of those shades that’s easy to be drawn to. This lipstick is perfect for the summer and a little bit goes a long way with this lipstick.

This is one of my favourite lipsticks by MAC. I usually wear this all year round but I do love wearing it in the summer. This is Retro Matte Flat Out Fabulous by MAC. This lipstick will definitely brighten your face and transform your look. MAC’s Flat Out Fabulous is a stunning plum-pink lipstick and is bright and opaque. This is a long wearing lipstick so no matter what you do, it stays put!

This is not my everyday lipstick by an means, however, I like wearing this lipstick for a night out. This is an intensely pigmented purplish pink lipstick. I usually wear this lipstick if I am wearing all black because it stands out and adds a beautiful colour to your overall look.

You can purchase any of these lipsticks at any MAC store or online here.

Makeup Removal Sucked Until…

March 18, 2016

Okay ladies, after a long and tiring night of dancing, the last thing we want to do is remove the makeup on our face. It really is a chore after a night out. I recently purchased an incredible makeup remover by Clarins. When you first apply this product, it feels like a gel but then after you massage it into your skin it slowly develops into an oil like texture. Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel is one of my favourite makeup removal products because it breaks down makeup in an extremely gentle manner and you don’t have to worry about having any excess makeup left on your skin after rinsing it off.

Screen Shot 2016-03-18 at 2.46.54 AM

Once you’ve massaged this product into your skin and your makeup has completely melted off, you can rinse it off. As it comes in contact with water, the oil turns into a milky formula that rinses right off. If you wear a lot of makeup, you might want to use a washcloth in addition to this last step. However, if you don’t wear a lot of makeup, the one time rinse should be sufficient. Another one of my favourite makeup removers is the Bioderma Crealine (Sensibio) H2o Ultra-mild Non-rinse Face and Eyes Cleanser shown in the picture above.

Which products do you use to remove your makeup?

Review: Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer

January 13, 2016

I finally decided to switch up my concealer after many years of using the same one. I usually like to review a product after two weeks of testing but since I really like this concealer, I just couldn’t wait to blog about it.

This is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer which helps brighten the under eye area. I found that this concealer also provides medium coverage on spots and blemishes. It is available in four different shades: Ivory, True Ivory, Classic Beige, and Soft Beige. The shade that I picked up is the Classic Beige.

This concealer has a light consistency which makes it very easy to blend into the skin. I usually dab it on and then use my beauty blender to blend it into my skin. The formula is exceptional on any red areas. I must admit, this concealer is perfect for highlighting areas on your face. I particularly like this concealer under my eyes, under the sides of my nose, and to conceal any redness on the face. This product is for people looking for light-medium coverage. I purchased this concealer at a drugstore and for the price, its definitely worth a try. You can also use this concealer with a finishing powder and my favorite one to use is the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder (this helps mattify your skin and contributes to a lasting makeup application).

The only downside is the packaging. This concealer comes in a clear lip gloss-like tube with a dome applicator which looks nice but a lot of product is wasted since the wand is not long enough to gather the concealer at the bottom of the tube.

What are some of your favourite concealers? Share below! Yvonne, xoxo

FORMULA X Nail Polish | Review

December 24, 2015

Sephora X Nail Polish Prudish

Christmas is upon us and a long lasting nail polish is a must. Should be easy to find right? Well, after visiting Sephora, and picking up the Formula X nail polish I was excited to test it out and really see if it lasts for eight days without chipping. I used to get shellac nails but found that soaking my nails in polish remover every two weeks to be rather harsh on my nails and skin so I decided to give that up and try the Formula X nail polish.

I certainly like that there are plenty of colors to choose from; however, I must have been standing there for about ten minutes trying to decide what I wanted (girl problems). After a long battle with myself, I finally chose Color White Matter – Paper White and Color Fahrenheit – Cool Red.

The first thing that I noticed about this nail polish was the application brush. It is the perfect brush for a clean application. The shiny formula in this polish truly lasts even after having it on for a week! I rarely find a polish that has a lasting shine. This nail polish is enriched with an ingredient called ShineXcel- an ingredient that enhances color and shine. This formula is without any parabens and sulfates. Oh and did I mention that this nail polish dries really fast? Yaaaas!

The bad news is the polish chipped after 2 days but keep in mind that I did some cleaning and work in a dry office! There was only one chip and it is still going strong and this is day 6! 🙂

So if you’re a nail polish lover, I want you to try this formula and let me know what you think?

What are some long lasting nail polishes? Let me know in the comment box below!

Merry Christmas everyone- xo, Yvonne
